Board Extends Compliance Date for Collaborative and Supervisory Practice Continuing Medical Education Requirement

In 2021, the Board added a requirement for collaborating/supervising physicians and assistants to physicians to obtain continuing medical education (CME) prescribed by the Board. For those in a current collaborative or supervisory practice, the effective date for compliance was Jan. 1, 2024.  The Board has extended the effective date to Jan. 1, 2025.

Additionally, because many practitioners have already earned this CME, the look-back period has been extended from 48 months to 60 months.

For those who are not in a collaborative or supervisory practice as of Jan. 1, 2025, the CME may be obtained within twelve months of obtaining a new commencement for collaborative or supervisory practice.

The Board understands the potential difficulties in obtaining the specific education required and has been working toward making it available online. Currently, it is available only as a live course offered periodically throughout each year.  The next available live course is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2023, in Birmingham, Alabama.  Click here for more information about the November course.

The online course is expected to be available in 2024.
